Did He on the cross receive
The agonies that make us grieve
The lovelessness of childhood woe
Which were the nightmares we still know
Did He receive the insolence
Of vicious proud, the vile offense
Belittling as of scum
What moral depth does it come from?
Did He know the loneliness
The desperation we confess
To no one but the self we see
In empty mirrors, thus did He?
Confess, confess, then let Him bless
For He knew those of our distress
But heals us by His injuries
Invisible and ours He sees
